Inspired by a segmented wooden model of a human head developed at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology for X-ray experiments, Eduardo Paolozzi created the bronze bust Mr Cruikshank in 1950. Paolozzi transformed a dummy designed to provide insights into X-ray irradiation of the skull into a portrait-like sculpture. This emphasises the danger of radiation to humans and illustrates the drastic nature of brain irradiation.
