Les deux photomontages de John Heartfield (de son vrai nom Helmut Herzfeld) exploitent artistiquement la radiographie. Ils sont publiés dans l'hebdomadaire socialiste populaire Arbeiter-Illustrierte-Zeitung, pour lequel Heartfield collabore régulièrement depuis 1930. Adolf, le surhomme, qui avale de l'or et parle de ferraille, a été publié en 1932 et affiché en grand format pendant la campagne électorale du Reichstag de 1933. Il critique les banquiers et les industriels qui ouvrent la voie du pouvoir à Adolf Hitler.

These two photomontages by John Heartfield (whose real name was Helmut Herzfeld) make artistic use of X-ray imaging. They appeared in the popular socialist weekly magazine, the Arbeiter-Illustrierte-Zeitung, where Heartfield had been a permanent employee since 1930.

One of the photomontages, Adolf, the Superhuman: Swallows Gold and Talks Rubbish, was displayed as a large-format poster during the 1933 Reichstag election campaign. It criticises bankers and industrialists who paved the way for Adolf Hitler to come to power.
