Productivism's Stele

French artist Little Brother takes his name from George Orwell’s 1984, and works within a long lineage of dissident art and propaganda poster traditions. His sharp, symbol-rich visual language—built on stark contrasts of black and white—originates in linocut printing, whose graphic rigour he has preserved. For the Urban Art Biennale 2026, the work is adapted to a free-standing wall that survives from the original Ironworks structure. Covering it entirely, the figure assumes the presence of a stele, a totemic image of the productivist subject. Half human, half tool, in the artist’s reading it embodies the demand for endless production that defines our economic order. The head is a pill, signalling chemical sedation; the legs form the jaws of an adjustable wrench, an instrument to be used and replaced. Vertical lines stripe the body like a prison fence. In place of a mouth, a television screen relays an unbroken flow of slogans captured by a smartphone implanted in the brain. The figure is at once actor, vehicle and victim of the system.
