Ziquan Wang
Cast in matt epoxy resin, the sculpture Suspicion by Shanghai artist Ziquan Wang reveals a colourful interior reminiscent of the organic twists and turns of the glass people from the workshops of the Dresden Hygiene Museum. But the body depicted appears overturned and twisted, as if injured by the force of an impact. Transparency and cable harnesses instead of blood vessels and nerve pathways make the fusion of the organic and the technological visible, but at the same time, their indeterminacy eludes medical analysis. Suspicion questions what it means to be human in an increasingly technologised world.
