Description

With his installation, Tomas Lacque from Bordeaux depicts a frozen world in a state of emergency. Beneath a uniform layer of paint, vans, toys and everyday objects appear as though covered in dust, sand or ash – frozen in a moment following the catastrophe, like a modern-day Pompeii. The scene is still, and an apocalyptic atmosphere prevails. Objects and nature have lost their value and function. Amidst teddy bears, tyres and withered plants, the work prompts reflection on transience and the consequences of human action. The scene also serves as an allusion to the times when dust spewed out by the Völklinger Hütte literally blanketed the city.
