In her work from the Kontinentalkern series, Düsseldorf-based artist Katharina Sieverding superimposes the image of a solar flare onto a positive copy of an X-ray showing a human spine, intestines and pancreatic carcinoma. The combination of the internal view of a diseased body and the detailed astronomical image spectacularly connects the microcosm and the macrocosm. At the same time, it makes palpable the emotional force of a cancer diagnosis, which contrasts with the rationality of the clinical result.
