In 1896, the year after Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen discovered the rays that bear his name and the birth of cinema, Scottish doctor John Macintyre produced the first cinematographic X-ray images. They show the movements of an X-rayed frog's thigh as well as those of a human heart and stomach. Macintyre first presented his images in Glasgow, where he founded the world's first hospital radiology department at the Royal Infirmary. In 1897, he presented his film to the Royal Society in London, where it was met with great enthusiasm.
