In Sanctus (Latin for 'holy'), Barbara Hammer combines found footage of moving X-ray images from the 1950s with solemn sacred music by Neil Rolnick. Superimposing the historical material makes it glow and shimmer colourfully, transforming everyday movements into a psychedelic hymn to life and transience. This reveals the dual nature of X-rays: they can be a fascinating revelation, but they also carry deadly potential — they can be healing or harmful, depending on the dose.
